## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BEGAN GO AROUND TOO SLOW THEN ABORTED TO LATE. OVERRAN RWY. HIT CURB AND TREE. (.4) THE STUDENT PILOT WAS REMAINING IN CLOSED TRAFFIC TO PRACTICE CROSSWIND LANDINGS. WHILE ON SHORT FINAL APPROACH FOR THE 7TH LANDING, HE ELECTED TO PERFORM A GO-AROUND. HE INCREASED POWER AND RETRACTED THE FLAPS FROM 30 TO 10 DEGREES. HE THEN BECAME CONCERNED ABOUT A POOR RATE OF CLIMB AND LOW AIRSPEED, AND HE DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD SAFELY CLEAR TREES AT THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY. DECIDING TO ABORT THE GO-AROUND, HE LANDED NEAR THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE NOSE WHEEL STRUCK A CONCRETE CURB THAT MARKED THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT THEN BECAME AIRBORNE AND STRUCK A SMALL TREE. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED NO PREEXISTING ANOMALY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX97LA251](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX97LA251), Jul 7, 1997: Cessna 150M (N8168U), Chico, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: failure of the student pilot to maintain adequate airspeed during a go-around. Trees at the departure end of the runway were a related factor.

## Other reports on N8168U (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19820722050549A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820722050549A), Jul 22, 1982: Cessna 150M (N8168U), Corvallis, OR, Substantial damage. Aircraft found off end of runway with substantial damage. Aircraft had been stolen and crashed during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
