## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-16) THE PILOT DECIDED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 33. WINDS WERE VERY STRONG (30-40MPH) OUT OF THE SOUTH. THE PILOT BECAME AWARE THAT HE WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO LAND AND STOP ON RUNWAY 33 AT ABOUT 50 FT. AGL, SO INITIATED TO GO AROUND AT THAT POINT. AFTER INITIATING THE GO AROUND, THE PILOT DECIDED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLOSE TO STALLING AND WOULD NOT HAVE THE PERFORMANCE NEEDED TO MAKE THE GO AROUND. HE ABORTED THE GO AROUND AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE LANDING GEAR RETRACTED. THE PILOT MADE SEVERAL DECISIONS WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THAT LED UP TO THIS ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX97LA244](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX97LA244), Jul 12, 1997: Smith, Ted Aerostar Aerostar 601 (N7435S), Boulder City, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate in-flight planning/decision, his failure to obtain the current wind information, his selection of the wrong runway, and his delay in aborting landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
