## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT PICKED UP BANNER MID FIELD, STALLED ON DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY, CRASHED. (FROM .4) DURING A LOW PASS TO PICK UP A BANNER, THE AIRPLANE WA SLOW AND AFTER PICKING UP THE BANNER WAS UNABLE TO FLY AWAY WITH THE BANNER. THE PILOT ELECTED TO DROP THE BANNER; HOWEVER, THE AIRPLNE DEPARTED CONTROLLED FLIGHT, ENTERED AN INADVERTENT STALL/SPIN FROM WHICH THE PILOT DID NOT RECOVER PRIOR TO IMPACT WITH THE TERRAIN. (-23) ACCORDING TO GYY ATC TOWER OPERATORS, N8197S WAS CLEARED FOR BANNER PICKUP, AT THEIR NORMAL LOCATION, BESIDE RUNWAY 20 AT GYY. CONTROLLERS OBSERVED WHAT THEY CONSIDERED A SLOWER THAN NORMAL CLIMB OUT AFTER HOOKING ONTO BANNER. THE AIRCRAFT REPORTEDLY PROCEEDED APPROXIMATELY 1500 FEET BEYOND THE PICKUP POINT BEFORE RELEASING THE BANNER. AIRCRAFT LEVELED OFF, TEMPORARILY, AND WHILE APPEARING TO ATTEMPT LANDING ON RUNWAY 02, (180 DEGREES FROM ORIGINAL DIRECTION OF FLIGHT) SPUN TO THE RIGHT AND IMPACTED THE GROUND SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS 83 DEGREES F. INSPECTION OF AIRCRAFT AND ENGINE AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE REVEALED NOTHING MECHANICALLY ABNORMAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97FA208](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97FA208), Jul 12, 1997: Cessna 150F (N8197S), Gary, IN, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: the pilot's not obtaining/maintaining airspeed which resulted in a stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
