(-23) ON 07/13/97, AIRCRAFT N7981 A GRUMMAN G-164A AN AGCAT WAS DEPARTING A UNIMPROVED GRASS RUNWAY, APPROXIMATELY 1500 FT. IN LENGTH. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE RPM AND MANIFOLD PRESSURE WAS NORMAL. AT THE POINT OF LIFT THE PILOT SAID THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A FENCE AND TURNED TO THE LEFT AND SLID TO A STOP IN A SOYBEAN FIELD. THIS ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION IS IN PROGRESS BY THE NTSB #MIA97LA210.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA97LA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA97LA210), Jul 13, 1997: Grumman-Schweizer G-164A (N7981), Woodeberry, TN, destroyed. Probable cause: in-flight collision with a fence during takeoff. Factors in this accident were the pilot's inadequate pre-flight by not calculating the total weight of the airplane, and high temperatures.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
