## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) MR. DAN ROBINSON STATED TO ME THAT ON JULY 13, 1997, HE DEPARTED SALUDA COUNTY AIRPORT (6J4), SC, AT APPROXIMATELY 1500 EDT. HE SAID THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS FOR PLEASURE. AT APPROXIMATELY 1515, HE MADE AN APPROACH TO HIS SISTER'S PROPERTY. ABOUT 40 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, HE SLOWED THE DESCENT SO AS TO TERMINATE AT A HOVER. THE HELICOPTER TURNED RIGHT 90 DEGREES. HE THOUGHT THE AIRCRAFT WAS ENTERING SETTLING WITH POWER. MR. ROBINSON STATED HE LOWERED THE NOSE TO EXIT THE PERCEIVED SETTLING WITH POWER, BUT THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO TURN TO THE RIGHT AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE LANDING SKID FAILED, THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED OVER ON ITS RIGHT SIDE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE MAIN ROTOR BLADE. HE AND HIS PASSENGER EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL97LA103](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL97LA103), Jul 13, 1997: Hughes 269C (N7413F), Johnston, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: failure of the pilot to maintain the proper rotor RPM during the approach and flare for landing.
