## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH TREES DURING AN ATTEMPTED ABORTED LANDING. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ABORTED THE LANDING AFTER THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED TWICE DURING THE ATTEMPTED LANDING. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE STRUGGLED TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING THE LANDING AND THE SUBSEQUENT ABORTED LANDING BECAUSE A LEFT CROSSWIND WAS PUSHING THE AIRPLANE TOWARDS TREES ALONG THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. ONE WITNESS STATED THE PITCH ALTITUDE OF THE AIRPLANE INCREASED TO APPROZIMATELY 15 DEGREES DURING INTIAL CLIMB. WITNESSES SAID THE AIRPLANE WALLOWED AND ENTERED THE TREES NOSE DOWN. THE PILOT HAD FLOWN 4 HOURS DURING THE PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS OF WHICH 1.7 HOURS WAS FLOWN 1 MONTH PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC97LA143](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC97LA143), Jul 14, 1997: Cessna 172M (N9679V), Manville, NJ, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing and his failure to maintain adequate airspeed. A factor was the pilot's lack of recent flight experience.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
