## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE AIRCRAFT HIT WIRES WHILE MAKING AN APPROACH TO A FARM FIELD AT DUSK. THE WINDSCREEN AND PROP WERE DAMAGED. THE PILOT THEN LANDED IN THE FIELD. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE AIRCRAFT WAS OUT OF ANNUAL WHEN THE FLIGHT OCCURRED. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE UNINJURED. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED 7/23/97 BUT WAS NOT REPORTED UNTIL 8/22/97. AIRWORTHINESS AND FAR VIOLATIONS WERE INVOLVED IN THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS FLOWN WITHOUT A CURRENT ANNUAL INSPECTION. AIRMAN COMPETENCY WAS INVOLVED IN THE PILOT'S DECISION TO LAND IN A FIELD AT DUSK WITHOUT SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE SITE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
