## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT PERFORMING AIRSHOW, COMING OUT OF A DESCENDING SNAP ROLL, UNABLE TO GET FULL ELEVATOR RESPONSE, CRASHED. (-23) ON JULY 27, 1997, AT 271820Z, A SORRELL MODEL SNS-Y, N774HB CRASHED INTO TREES WHILE BEING FLOWN IN AEROBATIC ROUTINE AT TOMAHAWK REGIONAL AIRPORT, TOMAHAWK, WI. THE PILOT SUSTAINED NO INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. NO PASSENGERS WERE ON BOARD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED IN AN AIRSHOW FLIGHT BY THE OWNER, A COMMERCIAL PILOT WITH AN AIRPLANE, SINGLE ENGINE LAND RATING, UNDER 14 CFR PART 91 WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME. AT THE END OF A SNAP ROLL, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A TURN TO THE LEFT AND COMPLAINED OF NO ELEVATOR CONTROL. ALTITUDE COULD NOT BE MAINTAINED AND, WITH THE ENGINE AT FULL POWER, THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO TREES. INVESTIGATION REVEALED GOOD FLIGHT CONTROL CONTINUITY AND NO APPARENT MECHANICAL DEFECTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97LA225](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97LA225), Jul 27, 1997: Sorrell SNS-7 (N774HB), Tomahawk, WI, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot encountered a tailplane stall. The factors involved were the pilot conducted a low altitude flight maneuver and encountered engine torque effect.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
