## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THIS WAS HIS FIRST APPROACH TO A RUNWAY LESS THAN 100 FEET WIDE. DURING THE LANDING FLARE ON THE 40 FOOT WIDE RUNWAY, THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES, DRIFTED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, AND STRUCK A RUNWAY LIGHT. THE PILOT THEN ABORTED THE LANDING AND ADDED NOSE-UP PITCH. THE STUDENT PILOT STATED, "I BLED OFF ALL MY AIRSPEED AND STALLED THE AIRCRAFT."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC97LA156](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC97LA156), Aug 1, 1997: Cessna 172M (N80987), Milton, WV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
