## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STRUCK TREES ON CLLIMBOUT FROM ULTRALITE STRIP. (-23) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WAS DROPLETS OF WATER ON THE WINGS PRIOR TO HIS TAKEOFF. HE STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT UNDERPOWERED AND THERE WAS NO STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRCRAFT. AFTER TAKEOFF, THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH A TREE AND CAME TO REST ON A CHAINLINK FENCE. THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER INCURRED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE WINDS WERE CAL, AND THERE WAS NO FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97LA251](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97LA251), Aug 3, 1997: Larsen T-BIRD II (N41873), Oshkosh, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain flying speed and loss of control resulting in a stall. Factors were the tree and the fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
