## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: 1.	ON 08/14/97 AT 1200Z TIME, A BEECHCRAFT BE-2000-2000 AIRCRAFT (N8074S) DEPARTED BEECH FIELD (BEC) AIRPORT, KANSAS EN ROUTE TO DULLES INTERNATIONAL (IAD) AIRPORT. AT APPROXIMATELY 150 MILES FROM ORIGIN AND AT AN ALTITUDE OF 33,000 FEET, SMOKE WITH AN ELECTRICAL SMELL WAS PERMEATED THROUGH THE CABIN FROM THE OVERHEAD VENTS. 2.	INITIATING EMERGENCY ENVIRONMENTAL AND ELECTRICAL PROCEDURES, THE HEATER FAN CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS PULLED AND AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED TO KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN (MKC) AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER. HAVING PULLED THE HEATER FAN CIRCUIT BREAKER, THE SMOKE STOPPED. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AT MKC WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT (NO DAMAGE AND NO INJURIES). 3.	ON EXAMINATION, EXECUTIVE BEECH FAA CERTIFICATE REPAIR STATION (AKGR) DETERMINED THAT THE HEATER FAN MOTOR HAD FAILED. THE HEATER FAN MOTOR WAS REPLACED BY AKGR. A MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT REPORT (FAA FORM 8010-4) HAS BEEN SUBMITTED. 4.	THIS INCIDENT NUMBER CE97-IGA0100 IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
