## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) THE AIRPLANE WAS AT MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT AND WAS DEPARTING A LAKE SITUATED AT 3,000 FEET MSL. AFTER TAKEOFF, IN VARIABLE WINDS OF 15 KNOTS GUSTING TO 25 KNOTS, THE PILOT BEGAN TO RETRACT FLAPS WHEN THE AIRPLANE HAD ACCELERATED TO 75 MPH. THE PILOT STATED THE AIRSPEED DROPPED TO 40 MPH, THE AIRPLANE STALLED AT ABOUT 50-60 FEET AGL, AND DESCENDED INTO THE WATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC97LA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC97LA124), Aug 18, 1997: Cessna 180H (N91412), Arctic Village, AK, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for gusty wind conditions. Factors were the gusty wind conditions, and the pilot's misjudging the wind information.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
