## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON AUGUST 20, 1997, MR. JOSEPH E. ROHALEY WAS PILOT IN COMMAND OF CESSNA 421B, N41085, ON AN IFR FLIGHT FROM PITTSBURG, PA (AGC) TO GREER, SC (GSP). CESSNA N41085 WAS LEVEL AT 16,000 FEET NEAR THE BECKLEY VOR WHEN MR. ROHALEY NOTICED THE SMELL OF SMOKE AND OBSERVED BLUE SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. MR. ROHALEY TURNED OFF ALL UNNECESARY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE DIVERSION INTO BECKLEY, WV AIRPORT (BKW). CESSNA N41085 LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL FOUND A BURNED WIRE IN THE PROPELLER DE-ICE CIRCUIT AND DISABLED THE PROPELLER DI-ICE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AIRCRAFT MEL. M&D REPORT REQUESTED IF CAUSE IS DETERMINED WHEN REPAIRS ARE MADE. ON SCENE INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED BY INSPECTOR PAUL REYNOLDS, CRW FSDO. THIS INVESTIGATION CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
