## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON AUGUST 29, 1997, AT APPROXIMATELY 1200 PDT, A WHEEL EQUIPPED CESSNA CE-152 AIRPLANE, N68452 OWNED BY RG AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE, INC., OPERATED BY ANGLO AMERICAN AVIATION, INC., AND PILOTED BY ADE A. LAWAL SWERVED OFF OF RUNWAY 27L AT GILLESPIE AIRPORT IN EL CAJON, CALIFORNIA, AND DAMAGED AN AIRPORT SIGN. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT AND WAS NOT INJURED. THE 14 CFR 91 FLIGHT WAS OPERATED IN VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS WITH A COMPANY FLIGHT PLAN. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE WIND WAS ABOUT 300 DEGREES AT 5 KNOTS. IN HIS WRITTEN STATEMENT, THE PILOT INDICATED THAT HE ALLOWED THE AIRPLANE TO DRIFT DURING TOUCHDOWN TO THE RUNWAY CAUSING THE AIRPLANE TO SWERVE OFF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH THE FAA IIC THAT HE WAS DISCONTINUING FLIGHT TRAINING INDEFINITELY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
