A WITNESS SAID THAT THE GLIDER ENTERED ANOTHER SPIN, ABOUT 100 FEET AGL, AND STRUCK THE GROUND AT THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 01. THE PILOT REPORTED OVER 10 HOURS IN GLIDERS INCLUDING 1 HOUR IN MAKE AND MODEL. HE REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION WITH THE GLIDER. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD97LA118](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD97LA118), Sep 6, 1997: Reynolds MARSKE-MONARCH 1997 (N5377), Sutton, WV, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin. A related factors was the pilot lack of familiarity with the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
