## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: DEPARTED RUNWAY 08 AT MCAS YUMA AT APPROXIMATELY 0915 LOCAL. ABOUT 15 MINUTES INTO FLIGHT I DETECTED SMOKE ENTERING THE FRONT COCKPIT AND THE SMELL OF ELECTRICAL BURNING. I ELECTED TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONARY LANDING AND SWITCHED OFF THE MASTER SWITCH, GENERATOR, FUEL SELECTOR AND MAGNETOS. I WAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 8 AND MADE A BASE ENTRY. DUE TO VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND LIGHT WINDS, I ELECTED TO LAND ON THE WEST BOUND LANES OF I-8, SHORT OF THE CROSSING POWERLINES. AT THE POINT OF TURNING FINAL, THE CLOSEST VEHICLE WAS APPROX. 2000'-2500' BEHIND THE AIRCRAFT. THE LANDING WAS UNEVENTFUL, THE SMOKE DISSIPATED AND NO ACTUAL FIRE OCCURRED, THANKFULLY. NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE PLANE OR TO OBJECTS ON THE GROUND, AND NO INJURIES OCCURRED. ADDENDUM-10/06/07 A MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT REPORT WAS REQUESTED FROM THE OWNER REGARDING THE GENERATOR THAT FAILED INTERNALLY. THE OWNER FAILED TO SUBMIT THE REPORT, ALTHOUGH IT WAS REQUESTED ON TWO OCCASIONS. ADDENDUM-10/07/97 M OR D REPORT ARRIVED FROM OWNER. GENERATOR FAIL INTERNALLY, SHORTING OUT AND MADE A LOT OF SMOKE AND HEAT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
