## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CRASHED ON TAKEOFF OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES ARE UNKNOWN. (-23) THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD TAKEN OFF FROM A PRIVATE GRASS RUNWAY AT 65 KNOTS WITH NO PROBLEM. THERE WERE TREES TO CLEAR AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY, AND THE PLANE SUDDENLY STARTED TO FEEL LIKE IT NEEDED HELP AND THE CONTROL YOKE FELT SLOPPY, BUT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE. THE STALL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND WHEN HE SAW HE COULDN'T CLEAR THE TREES , HE CHOSE A SPOT AND STALLED IT INTO THE TREE TOPS. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER EVACUATED THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE PASSENGER SUFFERING MINOR INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED BY THE POST-CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD97LA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD97LA124), Sep 27, 1997: Piper PA-28-140 (N6308W), Zanesville, OH, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to perform the published short/soft field takeoff procedures.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
