## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A PARACHUTE JUMPER RECEIVED FATAL INJURIES AS A RESULT OF A HIGH SPEED IMPACT WITH THE GROUND ON SEPTEMBER 27, 1997 AT APPROXIMATELY 1827 CDT. THE JUMPER'S MAIN PARACHUTE WAS FULLY DEPLOYED AND STEERABLE. SEVERAL WITNESSES ON THE GROUND OBSERVED THE RIGHT TOGGLE TO SLIP OUT OF THE JUMPER'S HAND. THE CANOPY ENTERED A STEEP LEFT TURN AT ABOUT 60 FEET, AND THE JUMPER WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT PRIOR TO IMPACTING THE GROUND. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT. THERE WERE NO FAA RESPONSIBILITIES INVOLVED. THIS WAS AN INTENTIONAL JUMP. NO FAA APPROVED EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
