## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER LANDING IN A FIELD A WIND GUST LIFTED BALLON AND CARRIED IT INTO SIDE OF A HOUSE LIFTED LANDED SHORTLY. (-23) AT APPROXIMATELY 0830, OCTOBER 6, 1997, AIRMAN HENSLEY HAD LANDED HIS BALLOON. THE BALLOON WAS STATIC UNTIL A GUST OF WIND CAUSED IT TO BECOME AIRBORNE. HE HAD TO ATTEMPT LIFT-OFF, AND IN SO DOING, HIT A HOUSE, DAMAGED THE STUCCO AND KNOCKED THE COOLER OFF THE FOUNDATION ON TOP OF THE ROOF. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR OTHER DAMAGE. ONE OF THE BALLOON RISERS WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW98LA143](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW98LA143), Oct 6, 1997: Aerostar S-60A (N63459), Albuquerque, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain control of the balloon.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
