## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 10, 1997 AT ABOUT 1600 Z; MR. JOEL TRAVIS CALLAHAN WHILE FLYING AIRCRAFT N36675 A BE-A36 MADE A GEAR UP LANDING AT THE JACK EDWARDS AIRPORT (AL15) GULF SHORES, ALABAMA. MR. CALLAHAN ADMITS THAT WHILE PRACTICING A GPS APPROACH AT THE JACK EDWARDS AIRPORT HE WAS INVOLVED IN CHECKING OUT A NEWLY INSTALLED GPS INSTRUMENT, WHILE SHOOTING THE GPS TO AL15. MR. CALLAHAN BECAME FOCUSED ON THE APPROACH INSTRUMENT, FAILED TO GO THROUGH THE LANDING CHECKLIST, LET THE FLAPS DOWN TO FULL FLAPS, AND REDUCE THE MANIFOLD PRESSURE, BUT FAILED TO LET THE LANDING GEAR DOWN. PRIOR TO TOUCH DOWN, THE LANDING GEAR WARNING SOUND CAME ON. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED TO ANYONE, AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS MINOR. COUNSELING WAS DONE TO MR. CALLAHAN AND HE HAS MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH A FLIGHT SAFETY INSTRUCTOR FOR RECURRENT TRAINING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
