## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 18, 1997, AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30 AM LOCAL TIME, AN AMT-200 MOTOR GLIDER OWNED AND OPERATED BY MR. ROBIN RICE, COLLAPSED THE MAIN LANDING GEAR DURING THE LANDING ROLL-OUT AT THE KERRVILLE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. VFR FLIGHT CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE COMPOSITE BELLY AND GEAR DOORS. THE WOODEN PROPELLER SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO BOTH BLADES. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT LA PORTE, TEXAS (T-41). THE PRIVATE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE MECHANICAL GEAR WAS SELECTED TO THE DOWN POSITION. THE PILOT VERIFIED GEAR DOWN BY THE POSITION OF THE GEAR OPERATING HANDLE AND THE GREEN GEAR DOWN ANNUNCIATORS. THE PILOT ALSO STATED THAT THE MECHANICAL GEAR HANDLE MOVED FORWARD TOWARDS THE RETRACT POSITION AS THE GEAR COLLAPSED. EYE WITNESSES REPORTED TO THE PILOT THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN ON FINAL, BUT SHORTLY AFTER TOUCHDOWN BEGAN TO WOBBLE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED FOLLOWED BY THE LEFT MAIN GEAR. A PRELIMINARY EXTERNAL INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT REVEAL ANY MECHANICAL FAILURES OF THE GEAR OPERATING MECHANISM. KERRVILLE AVIATION MECHANIC MR. COREY WEHMEYER REPAIRED THE AIRFRAME AND INSPECTED THE LANDING GEAR SYSTEM. HE STATED THAT ALTHOUGH HE ADJUSTED THE ACTUATING STRUTS, HE DID NOT BELIEVE THIS CONTRIBUTED TO THE GEAR COLLAPSE. ADDITIONALLY, HE STATED THAT HE DID NOT FIND ANY MECHANICAL DISCREPANCIES WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE GEAR TO COLLAPSE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
