## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE PILOT OF N9334B DEPARTED ON RUNWAY 3, MARINE CORPS AIR STATION, EL TORO, CA WITH THE INTENTION TO REMAIN IN THE LOCAL TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR THREE OR FOUR TOUCH-AND-GO-LANDINGS AND THEN DEPART THE PATTERN FOR A FLIGHT WITHIN THE LOCAL AREA. HIS DESTINATION WAS BACK TO MCAS, EL TORO. THE EL TORO ATCT WAS CLOSED, HOWEVER, THE AIRFIELD WAS OPEN FOR UNCONTROLLED OPERATIONS. HE FILED A FLIGHT PLAN WITH THE FSS FAST FILE SYSTEM BUT DID NOT ACTIVATE THE FLIGHT PLAN BECAUSE OF THE INCIDENT DURING THE FIRST CLOSED TRAFFIC LANDING. THE PILOT IS A MARINE CORPS ACTIVE DUTY HELICOPTER PILOT AND IS A MEMBER OF THE EL TORO AERO CLUB. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE THOUGHT HE EXTENDED THE LANDING GEAR ON DOWNWIND, BUT WHEN HE TOUCHED DOWN THE GEAR WAS UP. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT, WHO WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT. A POST-INCIDENT LANDING GEAR EXTENSION/RETRACTION TEST INDICATED THAT THE LANDING GEAR OPERATED NORMALLY. THE LANDING GEAR INDICATORS AND WARNING SYSTEM FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE AIRMAN WAS COUNSELED IN LIEU OF ANY ENFORCEMENT OR CERTIFICATE ACTION WITH REGARD TO HIS CIVILIAN AIRMAN CERTIFICATE.
