## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON DECEMBER 4, 1997, AT APPROXIMATELY 0950 CST, DURING THE APPROACH TO CAPITAL AIRPORT, SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR DOWN INDICATOR LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. THE CREW MADE A FLYBY OF THE TOWER TO CHECK THE GEAR POSITION. THE LANDING GEAR APPEARED TO BE FULLY DOWN AND THE CREW LANDED AT 0955 CST, WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND NO INJURIES TO THE TWO CREW MEMBERS. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT. AN INSPECTION OF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AFTER THE LANDING REVEALED THAT THE GEAR WAS NOT FULLY LOCKED IN THE DOWN POSITION. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE ACTUATOR PIVOT POINT AT THE LOCKING MECHANISM WAS NOT PROPERLY LUBRICATED AND HAD CORRODED AND FROZEN, RESTRICTING THE DOWN LOCK AND PREVENTED THE LOCK FROM OPERATING PROPERLY. CORRODED PARTS WERE REPLACED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
