## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

LOW ON FINAL STRUCK SNOWBANK SHORT OF RUNWAY THRESHOLD POST PRIVATE FLIGHT TEST WAS REMEDIAL ACTION. (.4)THE SOLO STUDENT PILOT SAID HE DID NOT SEE THE SNOWBANK AT THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY ON WHICH HE PLANNED A LANDING DUE TO THE SNOWBANK BLENDING TO THE SNOW COVERED SURFACE AREA. IMPACT MARKS INDICATE THAT THE LANDING GEAR OF THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE 3' HIGH SNOWBANK PRIOR TO IMPACTING THE RUNWAY. (-23) DURING APPROACH TO RUNWAY, THE STUDENT PILOT STRUCK A SNOW BANK NEAR THE THRESHOLD. SNOW WAS PLOWED OFF THE RUNWAY AND LEFT AS A TWO-FOOT OBSTRUCTION NEAR THE THRESHOLD. THE GROUND WAS REPORTED AS TOO SOFT FOR THE PLOW TO REMOVE THE SNOW ANY FURTHER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI98LA060](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI98LA060), Dec 14, 1997: Cessna 152 (N68318), Waukegan, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's not identifying unsuitable terrain (snowbank) in the landing area, and his not selecting the proper touchdown point. A factor was the snowbank.

## Other reports on N68318 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
