## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 2, 1998 AT 1514 EDT, A MCDONNELL DOUGLAS DC-9-81, N819US, S/N 48099, REGISTERED TO U.S. AIRWAYS, INC., RETURNED AND LANDED AT THE BUFFALO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 23, AFTER THE RIGHT ENGINE FAILED. THE CRASH, FIRE AND RESCUE RESPONDED AND THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REMOVED AND REPLACED THE RIGHT ENGINE ASSEMBLY AND THEN RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME AND AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT DAMAGED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT THE BUFFALO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
