## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) SNOW AND ICE OBSTRUCTED THE TAXIWAY LINES. THE PILOT WAS TAXIING USING A ROW OF HANGARS TO HIS RIGHT SIDE TO ASSIST IN JUDGING THE DISTANCE FROM PARKED AIRPLANES ON HIS LEFT. FOCUSING RIGHT AND LEFT, BOTH THE PILOT AND THE PILOT RATED PASSENGER DID NOT NOTICE THE VEHICLE PARKED IN FRONT OF THE HANGARS. THE PILOT APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE VEHICLE WITH THE RIGHT WING. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WERE FOUND WITH THE AIRPLANE. (-23) ON JANUARY 2, 1998, NATHAN L. GRASS, A PRIVATE PILOT, WAS TAXIING N9912L, A CESSNA 172P, AT AUGUSTA STATE AIRPORT (AUG) WHEN THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT WING STRUCK A PARKED VEHICLE APPROX. 50' FROM THE TIEDOWN. THE CIVIL AIR PATROL (CAP) WAS BEING FERRIED FROM PRESQUE ISLE AIRPORT (PQI) FOR MAINTENANCE. THE WEATHER WAS VFR AND THERE WAS A LIGHT SNOW COVERING ON THE PARKING RAMP. THE CAP COMMANDER CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION FOR HIS OFFICE AND THIS INITIAL REPORT WAS REVIEWED. THE DAMAGE CONSISTED OF RIGHT WING, WING SPAR, WING TIP, FUSELAGE STRUCTURE AT WING ROOT PUSHED IN, LEADING EDGE DAMAGE AND SEVERAL SKIN DISTORTIONS. THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER, AN ATP RATED PILOT AND CFI, RECEIVED NO INJURIES. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY CLASSIFIED AS AN INCIDENT USING ON SITE CAP AND PILOT INFORMATION. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY FAA INSPECTORS, IT WAS UPGRADED TO AN ACCIDENT. THIS REPORT AND INVESTIGATION ARE CLOSED.
