## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

COFFEE POT SPILLED ON PASSENGER DURING DESCENT. ENCOUNTERED CAT. LIFTED ATTENDANTS AND BEVERAGE CART OFF FLOOR. (-23) A COFFEE POT INADVERTENTLY FELL FROM A SERVING CART ONTO A 7-YEAR-OLD BOY WHEN THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED UNANTICIPATED LIGHT TURBULENCE. THIS OCCURRED AFTER THE AIRCRAFT (ATL-MCO) HAD TRANSITIONED FROM CLIMBOUT TO CRUISE AND THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS BEGAN CABIN SERVICE. AS A RESULT OF THE COFFEE TOPPLING OVER ONTO THE BOY, HE SUFFERED FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE BURNS. THE CREW NOTIFIED BOTH ATC AND DELTA OPERATIONS TO HAVE MCO PARAMEDICS MEET THE PLANE FOR MEDICAL CARE AND TRANSPORTATION TO A LOCAL ORLANDO HOSPITAL. THE BOY WAS TREATED AT TWO LOCAL HOSPITALS AND RELEASED - ALL WITHIN 24 HOURS OF BEING INJURED. NO FURTHER ACTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA98LA054](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA98LA054), Jan 6, 1998: Boeing 757-232 (N618DL), Orlando, FL, no damage. Probable cause: inadvertent encounter with turbulence, which resulted spillage of hot coffee in a passenger's lap.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
