## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

COLLIDED WITH COVERED HANGAR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TAXI BENEATH IT. (.4) DURING TAXI IN NIGHTTIME CONDITIONS TO THE RAMP AREA TO OFFLOAD A PATIENT, THE PILOT DID NOT SEE ANY ROOM TO PARK THE AIRCRAFT. THE CREW DECIDED TO INITIATE A TURN AROUND AND TAXI THROUGH A T-HANGER TO REPOSITION THE AIRPLANE PRIOR TO OFFLOADING THE PATIENT. DURING THE TAXI THROUGH THE HANGER AREA, THE VERTICAL STABILIZER COLLIDED WITH THE AWNING OF THE HANGER AND THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE PILOT THOUGHT THE AIRPLANE'S WHEEL WAS STUCK ON A WHEEL CHOCK SO HE ADDED POWER. THE AIRPLANE LURCHED FORWARD WHILE THE VERTICAL STABILATOR WAS STILL IN CONTACT WITH THE STRUCTURE. (-23) PILOT ATTEMPTED TO TAXI UNDER A COVERED PARKING HANGAR WITH PASSENGERS. TAIL SECTION OF AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH TOP OF HANGAR CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO TAIL SECTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX98LA070](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX98LA070), Jan 8, 1998: British Aerospace Jetstream 3101 (N752JX), Phoenix, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's exercising poor judgement to continue to taxi under a covered T-hanger during nighttime conditions without proper clearance between the hanger and the aircraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
