## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DRIFTED LANDING ROLL. HIT DRIFTED SNOW AND PLOWED DIRFTS. SKIDDED SIDEWAYS OFF RWY. INCORRECT RWY CONDITION REPORT. (.4)DURING THE NIGHT LANDING ON A SNOW COVERED RUNWAY, THE TWIN-TURBOPROP AIRPLANE DRIFTED LEFT INTO DEEPER SNOW, STRUCK A SNOW BANK AND CAME TO A STOP. THE FLIGHTCREW HAD BEEN INFORMED THAT THE RUNWAY WAS CLEARED TO ITS FULL WIDTH OF 150 FEET, WITH 1/4 INCH OF SNOW OVER PATCHES OF ICE. POST-ACCIDENT OBSERVATION OF THE RUNWAY REVEALED THAT THERE WERE SNOW BANKS 2 TO 4 FEET HIGH ON BOTH SIDES, AND SNOW EXTENDED FROM BOTH SIDES INWARD FOR ABOUT 20 FEET, AT A DEPTH OF 4 TO 6 INCHES. A SNOW BANK ALSO EXTENDED OUT FROM A TAXIWAY APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET ONTO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD98LA023](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD98LA023), Jan 21, 1998: Beech 1900D (N854CA), Saranac Lake, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The inadequate snow removal from the runway by airport personnel which left a snow bank extending onto the runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
