## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BALLOONED ON A BUMP LANDING ON A LOGGING ROAD. WIND GUST DRIFTED AIRCRAFT INTO BORDERING TREES. (.4)THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAD LANDED ON A NARROW, UNEVEN, ABANDONED LOGGING ROAD IN GUSTY CROSSWIND CONDITIONS. DURING THE LANDING ROLL, THE AIRPLANE ENCOUNTERED A BUMP IN THE ROAD, AND BECAME AIRBORNE. A GUST OF WIND PUSHED THE AIRPLANE INTO ADJACENT TREES. THE PILOT SAID THE ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY HIS INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR THE GUSTY CROSSWIND CONDITIONS. (-23) WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON AN ABANDONED LOGGING ROAD, THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE ROADWAY AND IMPACTED A TREE WHICH TURNED THE AIRCRAFT ABRUPTLY, CAUSING THE RIGHT WING AND PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE GROUND. THE PILOT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AND THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS "PILOT ERROR."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC98LA016](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC98LA016), Jan 22, 1998: Cessna 150 (N5822E), Pt. Baker, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
