NARRATIVE: ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1998, THE FLIGHT CREW OF A BOEING 737, EI-CJW, FLIGHT 541, OPERATED BY AIR TRAN AIRWAYS, INC., REPORTED SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS PARKED ON THE RAMP. FIRE AND RESCUE RESPONDED AND REPORTED THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE MASTER COOLING FAN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAN WAS DEFERRED. THE FLIGHT DEPARTED FROM SYRACUSE, NEW YORK AND WENT TO ORLANDO, FL. THE FAN WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED WHEN THE AIRCRAFT ARRIVED AT ORLANDO. AN OPERATIONAL CHECK WAS SATISFACTORY AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED FOR SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.
