## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1998 AT 1330 EST, A CL-600, N1500, OPERATED BY JET AVIATION, RETURNED TO ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AFTER THE "MASTER CAUTION" LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING DURING CLIMB AT 38,500'. THE LEFT ENGINE VIBRATION MONITOR WAS SHOWING A READING OF 2.6, WHICH IS HIGH IN THE YELLOW RANGE MARKING OF THE INSTRUMENT. THE PILOT REDUCED POWER TO 80% AT WHICH TIME THE VIBRATION REDUCED TO THE NORMAL READING OF .3. THE PILOT DID NOT SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO ROC WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AND MADE A NORMAL LANDING. POST FLIGHT MAINTENANCE ACTIONS, INCLUDING ENGINE RUNS AND FILTER INSPECTIONS, AND VISUAL INSPECTIONS REVEALED NO DISCREPANCIES. THE VIBRATIONS COULD NOT BE INDUCED ON GROUND ENGINE RUNS. THE AIRCRAFT WAS FLOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER'S MAINTENANCE BASE AT HARTFORD, CT FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
