## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE:INM11980006 THE PILOT OF THE CESSNA 320D, ON A LOCAL VFR FLIGHT, DISCOVERED AN UNSAFE GEAR DOWN POSITION LIGHT WHILE HE WAS PREPARING TO LAND AT TWIN FALLS, ID. HE THEN FLEW AROUND FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, WHILE HE CYCLED THE LANDING GEAR SEVERAL TIMES BOTH ELECTRICALLY AND MANUALLY. DURING THIS TIME HE WAS IN RADIO CONTACT WITH PEOPLE ON THE GROUND, ANOTHER PILOT OPERATING HIS AIRCRAFT NEARBY AND THE LOCAL FAA/ATC TOWER. HE WAS ALSO RECEIVING CONFLICTING REPORTS, AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR WAS COMPLETELY DOWN AND LOCKED, FROM THOSE HE WAS IN RADIO CONTACT WITH. DURING TOUCH DOWN, THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER TO THE RIGHT AND COME TO REST, OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: LEFT MAIN GEAR STRUT, R/H PROPELLER BLADES, RIGHT INBOARD GEAR DOOR, LOWER R/H BRAKE HOUSING. MINOR DAMAGE OCCURRED ON THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: CHAFING OF THE TRAILING EDGE OF R/H AILERON AND FLAP, LOWER WING, RIGHT FUEL TIP TANK, RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER TIP FAIRING. THE R/H HORIZONTAL STABILIZER SKIN HAS A WRINKLE PROJECTING INBOARD A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 14 INCHES INBOARD. INSPECTION OF THE LANDING GEAR SYSTEM REVEALED SEVERE COMPRESSION DAMAGE TO THE R/H OUTBOARD LANDING GEAR MAIN DRIVE TUBE AND SEPARATION OF THE R/H BELL CRANK AND BRACKET FROM ITS ATTACHMENT. AN INSPECTION OF THE LANDING GEAR RETRACTION SYSTEM, FOR BINDING AND FREEDOM OF OPERATION, REVEALED NO ABNORMALITIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
