## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MARCH 14, 1998, HENRY F. BOTTIERI (NICKNAMED ENRICO), CALLED TO REQUEST A FERRY PERMIT FOR BEECH, BE-C445-G, N496DM, FOR THE NEW OWNER TO TAKE THE AIRCRAFT TO DES MOINES, IOWA, FROM CHINO, CALIFORNIA. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OUT OF ANNUAL. THE FERRY PERMIT WAS ISSUED VIA FAX AND WAS DATED FOR MARCH 14, 1998, UNTIL MARCH 23, 1998. ON MARCH 15, 1998, AT APPROXIMATELY 1630 PST, WILLIAM CHASE AND ENRICO BOTTIERI FLEW THE AIRCRAFT FOR A MAINTENANCE FLIGHT BEFORE MR. CHASE WAS TO DEPART FOR IOWA LATER THAT DAY. MR. CHASE STATED THAT THE TRANSPONDER DID NOT APPEAR TO BE WORKING. HE CALLED THE TOWER AND ENTERED THE PATTERN. WHEN MR. CHASE PUT THE GEAR HANDLE DOWN, NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE RED LANDING GEAR LIGHT WAS LIT. HE CYCLED THE SWITCH TWICE, PULLED THE CIRCUIT BREAKER, PUT THE GEAR SWITCH IN THE DOWN POSITION, CRANKED THE GEAR DOWN, FLEW BY THE TOWER TO VERIFY THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN, SLOWED DOWN THE AIRCRAFT WITH FULL FLAPS, AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND. ON THE FIRST LANDING THE LEFT GEAR STARTED TO COLLAPSE SO MR. CHASE WENT AROUND. ON THE SECOND LANDING THERE WAS A GREEN LIGHT FOR THE LEFT GEAR ONLY. UPON LANDING THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED, MR. CHASE ADDED POWER WHILE MR. BOTTIERI CUT THE MIXTURES. THE AIRCRAFT SLID, THEN THE RIGHT GEAR STARTED TO COLLAPSE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THIS INCIDENT INVESTIGATION IS NOW CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
