## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 3/24/98, THE PILOT INDICATED THAT ON THE APPROACH TO LANDING AT FXE, HE DID NOT RECEIVE A DOWN AND LOCK INDICATION ON THE LEFT MAIN GEAR. HE INFORMED THE TOWER, AND REQUESTED A FLY-BY. A FLY-BY WAS PERFORMED TO WHICH THE TOWER REPORTED THE GEAR SEEMED TO BE DOWN AND LOCKED. HE DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND ON FINAL APPROACH FOR RUNWAY 26, ON TOUCH DOWN THE LEFT MAIN COLLAPSED. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED THAT THE LEFT MAIN GEAR DOWN LOCK ASSEMBLY BROKE. ALTERNATE METHOD OF LOWERING TH EGEAR WAS NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO JAMMING OF BROKEN PIECE IN WHEEL WELL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
