## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BOUNCED PORPOISED LANDING. VEERED OFF RUNWAY. NOSED OVER. CROSSWIND EXCEEDED AIRCRAFT CONTROL. (.4)WHILE LANDING, THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN HARD, BOUNCED AND WAS FORCED OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY BY GUSTING WINDS. THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN, IN A GRASS FIELD, AND BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE MAIN GEAR SETTLED INTO SOFT GROUND. THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER AND CAME TO REST INVERTED.(-23) COMPENSATING FOR A CROSS WIND TO HIS LEFT, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 27 AT LINDEN AIRPORT, LINDEN, NJ, AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO LAND HARD ON THE CENTER LINE AND BOUNCED BACK IN THE AIR. ONCE BACK IN THE AIR, THE STRONG WIND GUST FROM THE SOUTHWEST DIRECTION FORCED THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY ONTO THE SOFT GRASS FIELD. DURING THE ROLL OUT, THE AIRCRAFT'S MAIN LANDING GEARS SETTLED INTO THE SOFT GROUND AND THE FORWARD MOMENTUM CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO NOSE OVER AND ONTO ITS BACK. THIS RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FIREWALL, RIGHT WING, PROPELLER, AND VERTICAL STABILIZER. (THIS IS A TAIL WHEEL AIRCRAFT). NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED BY THE PILOT AND PASSENGER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC98LA084](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC98LA084), Mar 28, 1998: Cessna 140 (N2229V), Linden, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot in commands improper recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
