## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

VEERED OFF RUNWAY ON LANDING ROLL COLLAPSING THE MAIN GEAR. UNSKILLED IN TAILWHEEL TYPE AIRCRAFT. (.4)THE AIRPLANE MADE WHAT AN AIRPORT OFFICIAL DESCRIBED AS A NORMAL TOUCHDOWN. DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT, THE AIRPLANE VEERED LEFT, WENT OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, AND COLLAPSED THE MAIN LANDING GEAR. EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE AT THE ACCIDENT SITE FAILED TO DISCLOSE A PRE-EXISTING FAILURE OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR ASSEMBLY. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL98LA061](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL98LA061), Mar 29, 1998: Piper PA-22 (N1846A), Hampton, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during a full stop landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
