## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CHECK OUT FOR NEW OWNER. ALLOWED 192 TO VEER TO RWY EDGE. CFI CORRECTED WITH HARD OPPSITE BRAKING. LEFT GEAR BROKE. (.4)DURING THE LANDING ROLL, WHEN THE DUAL STUDENT ALLOWED THE TAILWHEEL AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT TOO CLOSE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, THE INSTRUCTOR APPLIED LEFT RUDDER AND LEFT BRAKE. AS HE TOOK THIS CORRECTIVE ACTION, THE LEFT MAIN GEAR LEG FRACTURED AND SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. NTSB EXAMINATION OF THE FRACTURE SURFACE REVEALED THAT TWO FATIGUE CRACKS HAD INITIATED IN CORROSION PITS CREATED WHERE THE GEAR LEG RUBBED AGAINST THE GEAR LEG CLAMPING SYSTEM. THE TWO CRACKS EVENTUALLY COMBINED TO BECOME ONE, AND WHEN LOADS WERE APPLIED DURING THE LANDING ROLL, AN OVERSTRESS SEPARATION STEMMING FROM THE FATIGUE FRACTURE REGION OCCURRED. (-23)LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR SNAPPED DURING LANDING ROLL-OUT AT BEND, OR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA98LA058](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA98LA058), Apr 1, 1998: Cessna 195A (N1069D), Bend, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: Separation by fracture of the left main gear leg, as the result of fatigue cracks that initiated in corrosion pits on the gear leg surface.

## Other reports on N1069D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19841013064861I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19841013064861I), Oct 13, 1984: Cessna 195A (N1069D), Rubidoux, CA, Minor damage. Pilot taxied his aircraft into N2188 a powered glider. Struck gliders wingtip with prop. 195 forward view is poor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
