THE PILOT SAID HE APPLIED POWER TO ATTEMPT TO GO AROUND, BUT THE AIRCRAFT WAS OUT OF HIS CONTROL AND IT BOUNCED OFF THE RUNWAY FOUR OR FIVE TIMES. AFTER THE LAST BOUNCE, IT CAME DOWN ON THE NOSE GEAR AND THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE RUNWAY AND THE LEFT WING TIP DRAGGED ON THE PAVEMENT. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY ONTO THE GRASSY AREA BETWEEN THE RUNWAY AND TAXI WAY AND STOPPED. THE ENGINE MOUNT/NOSE GEAR SUPPORT WAS BENT, THE PROPELLER BLADES WERE BENT, THE LEFT WING TIP WAS DAMAGED, THE FIREWALL WAS BENT, AND THE SKIN AFT OF THE FIREWALL WAS PUNCTURED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE AIRPLANE IN THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
