## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: AIRCRAFT WAS MAKING A VISUAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 1 AT MKC AIRPORT. THIS WAS THE PILOTS FIRST APPROACH INTO MKC AND HE WAS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME LOCATING THE AIRPORT. AT ABOUT THE TIME HE WAS TO GO AROUND, HE SPOTTED THE AIRPORT AND PULLED BACK THE THROTTLES RAPIDLY, CAUSING THEM TO GO PAST THE FLIGHT IDLE STOPS AND INTO IDLE CUTOFF. POST INCIDENT INVESTIGATION FOUND THE LEFT IDLE STOP LOOSE TO THE POINT OF BEING ABLE TO SPIN OUT OF THE WAY OF THE THROTTLE STOP LEVER. THE RIGHT IDLE STOP HAD BEEN SHEARED OFF AND WAS FOUND LYING ON THE FLOOR NEXT TO THE CO-PILOT SEAT. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THESE STOPS HAD BEEN SECURE AND SAFELY WIRED AS REQUIRED. AIRCRAFT LANDED 3/4 MILE SHORT OF MKC RUNWAY 1 ON AN ABANDONED RAILWAY BED. THIS INCIDENT^PRIVACY DATA OMITT^IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
