## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: DURING THE APPROACH TO THE AIRPORT, N1428F EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE FAILURE AND THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT AT A SOD FARM WITHOUT INCIDENT. INVESTIGATORS REVEALED A MOUSE NEST IN THE CARB BOX. WHEN THE PILOT APPLIED CARB HEAT PRIOR TO LANDING, THE NEST GOT SUCKED INTO THE CARB INTAKE, CAUSING THE ENGINE FAILURE. INVESTIGATION ALSO REVEALED THE AIRCRAFT TO BE OUT OF ANNUAL INSPECTION AND THE PILOT OPERATING THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT A CURRENT MEDICAL CERTIFICATE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
