## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4)AFTER TOUCHING DOWN ON BOTH MAIN LANDING GEAR, THE LEFT MAIN GEAR OF THE TAILWHEEL AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF THE RUNWAY. AS THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED FORWARD WITH ONLY THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR TOUCHING THE SURFACE, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO VEER TOWARD THE LEFT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY. AS THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TOWARD THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT APPLIED REMEDIAL RUDDER INPUTS, BUT THE REMEDIAL ACTION WAS NOT TAKEN IN TIME TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT FROM EXITING THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. AS THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RUNWAY, THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR DUG INTO THE SOFT TERRAIN AND WAS TORN FROM THE FUSELAGE. (-23)SPOKE TO PILOT REGARDING ACCIDENT REPORTED BY ARLINGTON AIRPORT MANAGEMENT. PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS LANDING WITH A CROSSWIND, AND THAT HE TOUCHED DOWN RIGHT WHEEL FIRST. HE STATED THAT HE LOST CONTROL AND BEGAN GROUND LOOPING TO THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO TIP ONTO THE RIGHT WING. I ASKED THE PILOT IF HE FELT THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE AIRCRAFT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. HE STATED, "NO, THAT HE HAD JUST LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT".

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA98LA067](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA98LA067), Apr 26, 1998: Piper PA-20 (N7458K), Arlington, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll, and his delayed remedial action when the aircraft started to drift off the side of the runway.

## Other reports on N7458K (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19910712060449A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910712060449A), Jul 12, 1991: Piper PA20 (N7458K), Chehalis, WA, Substantial damage. Lost directional control landing the tail dragger type in a gusty crosswind. The aircraft ground looped.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
