## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING LANDING, THE TAILWHEEL-EQUIPPED BIPLANE BOUNCED AND THEN TOUCHED DOWN HARD AT WHICH POINT THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR FAILED. THE AIRPLANE EXITED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND NOSED DOWN. THE PILOT COMMENTED THAT THE ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY LESS SINK RATE AT TOUCHDOWN. (-23) DURING LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT LEAVING THE LANDING ENVIRONMENT. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR, NOSE AND RIGHT WING. I RECOMMEND THIS ACCIDENT BE CLOSED WITH NO ACTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW98LA207](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW98LA207), May 1, 1998: Schrack Starduster TOO (N5462), Hilltop Lakes, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to obtain/maintain the proper descent rate which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
