## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

RIGHT WING HIT TELEPHONE POLE TURNING TO PARK ON RAMP. (.4)AFTER LANDING, THE PILOT STARTED TO PARK IN A SPOT NEAR THE SOUTHEAST END OF THE PARKING RAMP. SEEING THAT THERE WERE NO TIE-DOWN ROPES IN THAT ROW, HE DECIDED TO TAXI TO A SPOT AT THE FAR WEST PART OF THE RAMP. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE AIRCRAFT IN A TIE-DOWN LOCATION ON THE WESTERN MOST ROW, HE FAILED TO SEE A LIGHT STANDARD (UTILITY POLE) LOCATED JUST OFF THE WESTERN EDGE OF THE RAMP. AS HE BEGAN HIS TURN TO ALIGN THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE PARKING SPOT, THE AIRCRAFT'S RIGHT WING IMPACTED THE POLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA98LA071](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA98LA071), May 3, 1998: Cessna 172M (N1673V), Ocean Shores, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from a light standard (utility pole) just off the edge of the parking ramp. Factors include a light standard placed near the edge of the parking ramp.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
