## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE STUDENT PILOT IN THE C-172 TAXIED BEHIND AN MU-2 PERFORMING A MAINTENANCE ENGINE RUN UP. THE PROP BLAST BLEW THE C-172 OFF THE TAXIWAY, CAUSING THE PROP AND THE LEFT WING TIP TO HIT THE GROUND. THE PROP TIPS WERE BENT AND THE LEFT WING TIP LIGHT HAD MINOR DAMAGE. THE TOWER DID NOT ADVISE THE C-172 OF THE MU-2 PERFORMING THE RUN UP, NOR DID THEY ADVISE THE MU-2 OF THE C-172 TAXIING BEHIND IT. THE STUDENT PILOT STOPPED SHORT OF THE MU-2, UNTIL HE HEARD THEM SHUT DOWN ONE OF THE ENGINES, BUT AS HE TAXIED BY, THEY RAN UP THE OTHER ENGINE AND THE PROP BLAST BLEW THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE TAXIWAY. WE HAVE REQUESTED THE SMYRNA AIRPORT AUTHORITY TO DESIGNATE ANOTHER AREA AWAY FROM ACTIVE AIRCRAFT TRAFFIC FOR FUTURE MAINTENANCE RUN UPS. THE TOWER WAS REQUESTED TO ISSUE ADVISORY WARNING TO AIRCRAFT TAXIING NEAR AIRCRAFT PERFORMING ENGINE RUN-UPS. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS DEBRIEFED ON THE HAZARDS OF TAXIING NEAR AIRCRAFT PERFORMING ENGINE RUN UPS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
