## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED ON LEFT BASE FOR LANDING THAT ENGINE QUIT. ON SHORT FINAL HE REPORTED HE MADE RUNWAY OVER TREE TOPS AND WOULD PUT IT DOWN IN AN OPEN FIELD. HE LANDED IN FIELD APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE SHORT OF RUNWAY 22 AND FLIPPED OVER. BROKE THE WOODEN PROP AND DAMAGED LANDING GEAR. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE MAGNETO SWITCH HAD FAILED. PILOT/OWNER REPLACED IT WITH A NEW SWITCH.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
