## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT LANDED SWERVED TO THE RIGHT, AND STRUCK A DITCH, SEARCY, AR. (.4)THE 1,800 HOUR INSTRUMENT RATED PRIVATE PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE ON TAKE-OFF ROLL, DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT WHICH WAS TO FAMILIARIZE HIM WITH THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE LANDED ON RUNWAY 01, THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT RETRACTED THE FLAPS, AND TOLD THE PRIVATE PILOT TO 'GO AROUND.' AS THE PRIVATE PILOT APPLIED TAKEOFF POWER, THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO VEER TO THE RIGHT. FULL RUDDER AND AILERON DEFLECTION, COMBINED WITH MAXIMUM BRAKING FAILED DIRECT THE AIRPLANE BACK TO THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE AIRPLANE EXITED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST NOSE DOWN IN A DRAINAGE DITCH, BETWEEN THE RUNWAY AND A TAXIWAY. (-23) WHILE RECEIVING INITIAL AIRCRAFT CHECK OUT WITH AN INSTRUCTOR ONBOARD, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A GO AROUND AND LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED RIGHT AND CAME TO REST IN A DRAINAGE DITCH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW98LA227](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW98LA227), May 16, 1998: Piper PA-22-150 (N3711P), Searcy, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the takeoff roll. A factor was the certified flight instructor's inadequate supervision.

## Other reports on N3711P (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19920614020309A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920614020309A), Jun 14, 1992: Piper PA22150 (N3711P), Walnut Ridge, AR, Substantial damage. Ground looped on landing roll. Collapsed left main gear. Unskilled in handling tail wheel aircraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
