## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT ENGINE FAILED DURING AERIAL APPLICATION AND THE ACFT CRASHED, EUNICE, LA. (.4)WHILE EN ROUTE TO A FIELD TO APPLY FERTILIZER, THE AIRCRAFT'S ENGINE LOST POWER FOR AN UNDETERMINED REASON. THE PILOT INITIATED A FORCED LANDING AND TURNED TOWARDS AN OPEN FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT 'CLIPPED' THE TOP OF A TREE, IMPACTED THE GOUND, AND CAME TO REST INVERTED. A POSTIMPACTED FIRE ENSUED, WHICH DESTROYED THE AIRCRAFT. (-23) ENGINE QUIT SHORTLY AFTER TAKE-OFF. AIRCRAFT HAD FULL LOAD OF FERTILIZER AND FUEL. AIRCRAFT LANDED IN FALLOW FIELD, FLIPPED OVER AND BURNED. PILOT EXITED AIRCRAFT UNDER HIS OWN POWER. PILOT HAD 2ND & 3RD DEGREE BURNS ON 46% OF HIS BODY. AIRCRAFT WAS BURNED IN COCKPIT, EMPENNAGE AND R/H HOR. STABILIZER. ALL INSTRUMENTS/INDICATORS BURNED. LEFT MAIN GEAR WAS SEPARATED FROM AIRCRAFT. ENGINE WAS RIPPED FROM FIREWALL AND WAS STANDING AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE TO THE AIRCRAFT, STILL ATTACHED BY MISC. WIRES. PROPELLER COULD BE ROTATED. CARBURETOR HAD BROKEN AWAY FROM ENGINE AND WAS FOUND UNDERNEATH THE WRECKAGE. IT APPEARS THAT THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND IN A NOSE DOWN LEFT WING DOWN ATTITUDE AND THEN FLIPPED OVER AND STOPPED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW98LA232](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW98LA232), May 19, 1998: Gulfstream-Schweizer G-164B (N8308K), Eunice, LA, destroyed. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
