## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.19) BOUNCED LANDING TRIED RECOVER. WIND GUST LIFTED WING OTHER HIT GROUND CARTWHEELED AND FLIPPED OVER. (.4) DURING LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A SUDDEN WIND GUST, THE EFFECTS OF WHICH THE PILOT FAILED TO CONTROL. THE RESULTS WERE A WING TIP DRAG, A LATERAL RUNWAY DEPARTURE, AND A SUBSEQUENT NOSEOVER. (-23) THE PILOT IN COMMAND, MR. SPROLES, STATED THAT HE ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 32 AT DELANO AND NOTED THAT THE WIND FAVORED RUNWAY 14. HE THEN EXITED THE PATTERN AND RE-ENTERED RIGHT TRAFFIC FOR RUNWAY 14. ACCORDING TO MR. SPROLES, DURING THE LANDING FLARE THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE RUNWAY HARD AND BOUNCED INTO THE AIR. HE STATED HE ADDED POWER TO RECOVER BUT A GUST OF WING CAUGHT THE AIRCRAFT AND THE LEFT WING TIP CAUGHT THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS SPUN AROUND TO THE LEFT AND THEN OVER ONTO ITS BACK WHERE IT CAME TO REST. THERE WAS ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, HOWEVER NEITHER THE PILOT OR THE PASSENGER WERE INJURED. DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX98LA177](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX98LA177), May 30, 1998: Rans S6EX Coyote II (N6179A), Delano, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions, failure to maintain directional control, and his failure to maintain aircraft control

## Other reports on N6179A (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19931225049879I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19931225049879I), Dec 25, 1993: Amtr COYOTE (N6179A), Cody, WY, Minor damage. Engine quit. Forced landing on a road. Repaired damaged strut. Refueled and departed. Not an FAA certificated engine.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
