## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4)THE PILOT REPORTED THAT AFTER THE AIRPLANE LIFTED OFF FROM THE WATER, HE INITIATED A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 300 TO 500 FEET ABOVE WATER LEVEL. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE BARELY APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE STICK FOR THE LEFT TURN WHEN THE NEXT THING HE REMEMBERED WAS THE AIRCRAFT GOING INTO THE WATER AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FELT THAT HE HAD ADEQUATE AIRSPEED AND ALTITUDE WHEN HE ENTERED THE TURN, BUT COULD NOT SAY IF IT WAS A CONTROL PROBLEM OR A STALL. INSPECTION OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS, AFTER THE ACCIDENT, DID NOT REVEAL EVIDENCE OF A CONTROL MALFUNCTION. (-23) DURING CLIMBOUT FROM LAKE COEUR D'LANE, IDAHO, PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AS HE STARTED TO EXECUTE A LEFT TURN. AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE WATER NOSE FIRST AND WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT AND ENGINE WERE PERFORMING NORMALLY BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. PILOT ESCAPED WITH MINOR INJURIES. THE LAST RECORDED CONDITION INSPECTION WAS 12/12/97 AT 122.8 HOURS TOTAL TIME. THE AIRCRAFT WRECKAGE IS PRESENTLY BEING INSPECTED FOR POSSIBLE FLIGHT CONTROL, (FLAPERON), FAILURE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS TYPE OF AIRCRAFT THAT ACTUATION OF THE FLAPERONS WILL CA USE A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE. FOLLOWUP: POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION OF THE ARICRAFT WRECKAGE DID NOT REVEAL EVIDENCE OF FLIGHT CONTROL MALFUNCTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA98LA115](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA98LA115), Jul 2, 1998: Tracy Avid Mark IV (N4353D), Coeur D'Alene, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed.

## Other reports on N4353D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20050630015669I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20050630015669I), Jun 30, 2005: Amtr AVIDMARKIV (N4353D), Moses Lake, WA, Minor damage. (-23) Student pilot misread windsock. Landed with strong tail wind and lost control. Ran off end of runway and flipped over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
